Neatherd V Taverham

The first game of the new season saw Taverham visit Neatherd for the first time. Kick off was delayed whilst they took a team photo in their great new kit….there was jealousy from the Neatherd girls I think! Only a couple of training sessions had passed, and some of the squad had yet to attend. With many year 10’s coming along, we may be forced to play them ahead of the year 11’s who don’t come training, be warned.

So we kicked off, right from the start Neatherd looked sharp, Elaine intercepted the ball, played a clever one-two with Katie and saw her good effort go just wide. Although we were having most of the possession, a long ball from Taverham saw their striker clean through, she shot well towards to the corner, but fortunately Becca was across quickly to make a great save. Holly and Jess combined well; in fact both Jess and Sarah were having great joy down the wings. Katie, Holly and Elaine all had good shots; but none really troubled the keeper.

One almighty goal-mouth scramble from a corner saw nearly every Neatherd playing have a swing for the ball, it fell to Lauren who volleyed the ball really well, but unfortunately just over the bar. The defence were looking solid, April, Harriet, Lauerl, Roxy and Lauren were all in commanding form. With a few minutes to half time, another corner, saw the ball fall to Lu, she hit an unstoppable shot into the top right corner, a great finish. 1-0 Neatherd.

Before half time, Elaine, Katie and Christie all had shots well saved. The break came and went, the second half started really well. Christie set up jess for a rasping drive that was well saved. Then Elanie chased a through ball, got a lucky rebound off Holly, and Elaine finished well into the corner. Two minutes later Neatherd got another, Christie got on the end of a Jessica cross to calmly slot home. Roxy was starting to put in some strong runs from Midfield, Holly had a shot well saved, and then Taverham scored! Then Lu went in goal, Becca was on the right wing and had some great runs, time and time again she would beat the full back and get in great positions. Holly chased a ball down,it broke for Lauren who scored with a good finish into the corner. Lu made a couple of good saves in goal to keep out Taverham.

A great start to the season, a convincing win that was deserved with some excellent football and super hard work. Well done girls. If some would just stop whinging at the ref, everyone would be happy!

Scorers – Elaine, Christie, Lu and Lauren

Player of the Match – Close, but today the award goes to Jess. Super wing play, creating good chances, with strong runs and great crosses.
