Neatherd V Reepham

March 13th  2006

The penultimate game of the season saw Reepham visit Neatherd on a bitterly cold afternoon. Laurel was on Holiday and Courtney has left to go to Taverham, so we were left with just 12 players for the match. Things were made a little worse when Jessica couldn’t start the game, as her boots were on route, courtesy of her mum!

The opening exchanges were very even, Reepham playing some neat football that resulted in a couple of half chance. Neatherd also were passing the ball well and great runs from Christie, Elaine and Katie gave Neatherd a few good chances, but no goals. The first half burst into action when Christie got hit, very hard with the ball in the back of the head. The ref kindly stopped the game, and although Christie was a little wobbly on her feet and a bit dizzy (some might say that is normal), she batled on.

Christie had recovered enough to collect a throw in, dribble round one player before passing the ball to Elaine. She rounded a player, headed into the box and coolly finished the ball into the corner with the outside of her foot. Roxy was making some strong runs out of the defense, Jess was having strong runs down the left, and Elaine nearly scored again, but for a great tackle from their centre back. The defense was outstanding Hayley, April, Lauren, Emma, Lu and Becca looked like they were never going to get beaten. Unfortunately they did, a scrappy goal mouth scramble led to the ball being drilled into the top of the net.

Neatherd started the second half strongly, Ashleigh put a great cross over, and Elaine controlled excellently, only to see the shot go just over the bar. Roxy had a corner, the great ball across was flicked into the net by the centre back – harsh on her, as she was having a great game. 2-1 Neatherd in the lead. It was one way traffic towards the Reepham goal, Jess had a shot just wide, Christie also saw a shot well saved. Becca had a great run down the left, turned onto her right foot before drilling a shot into the near corner. A great goal.

Lu was by now in goal, and making some excellent saves to retain the Neatherd lead. Roxy had a long range shot well saved, Jess had another couple of chances go wide (she was getting very annoyed about this!), Christie Kicked the floor before the ball, Lauren played a lovely flick to her sister on the right wing, Becca had great runs down the right, Emma was marshalling the winger (who was twice her size) well and as ever Ashleigh, April and Hayley were solid in defense. For the last 15mins, Katie now in goal never touched the ball! That was how dominant we were!! Cheers to Becca, Katie and Lu for going in goal.

Neatherd 3 – 1 Reepham  Scorers Elaine Thomas 1, Becca Taylor 1, OG (Roxy Corner) 1

Player of the Match; Elaine again played really well, as did Hayley, Roxy, the twins. But the Player of the match award goes to……….Rebecca Taylor, for excellent goal keeping (and just going in goal when no one else wants to!), great runs down the right and a super goal. Well Done.

The whole team played exceptionally well today, and deserved the win over a good Reepham team; bring on Wymondham on Tuesday/Today! Meet at 3.30pm at the mini-bus, changed!
