Neatherd V Sprowston

The second round of the cup saw the visit of Sprowston. In the first round Neatherd had progressed due to the win over Northgate. Despite leaving classes at 2.30pm, the Sprowston team turned up late….very late, only arriving just before 3.30pm. After a long warm-up, we were eventually ready to start on a wet and dark day. The team was a little ‘patched-up’ with Sarah, Aimee, Laura and Danielle helping out at the last minute, thanks to all of them, particularly Sarah who may well have been late for a prior engagement.

The Sprowston team started really well, passing the ball from side to side and penetrating through the middle with a few good shots, fortunately they were wide or well saved by goalie Zoe. Em and Aimee were defending well at full backs and Chelsie and Sian were determined not to concede a goal through the middle of defense. Neatherd had good attacking play. A long kick from Zoe led to Hannah putting Charlotte in, who was well tackled just before shooting.

Neatherd had their first shot of the game, a great run from Charlotte down the right, and an equally good cross, fell at the feet of Hannah, who had her shot well saved. Charlotte and Jules were working well through the middle, just that last penetrating pass just wouldn’t come. Laura was making a nuisance of herself in the middle of midfield, breaking up a lot of the Sprowston play. This normally resulted in the ball falling to Jules who would typically have a strong run. Sarah played well at full back putting in some important tackles in. She was playing there as Aimee was resting after getting an elbow in the ribs! Faye was linking play well upfront and Danielle was adjusting well to the quick tempo of the game. Half time came and went with encouraging words from Sinclair, Hood and Daglish.

In the second half Sinclair had to stand on Aimee’s feet to stop her lifting them off the floor at throw-ins, but it didn’t really help as she just fell over. Em was playing well down the left against talented wingers, she would keep winning the ball and passing to team mates. Hannah was doing well in goal, as was Zoe with good tackles and runs in Midfield. Laura was still buzzing round in Midfield winning the ball, and Jules was working tirelessly. At the back Chelsie and Sian were still doing a sterling job in repelling the opposition. The final whistle blows.

Unfortunately during all our good play Sprowston managed to score 11 times, they were an exceptional team who should win the cup competition. So an 11-0 loss! Congratulations to Neatherd for never giving up against a very talented team, who played football as it should…pass and move!

Player of the Match – A couple of contenders, Jules, Laura Sian and Charlotte, but today the award goes to Zoe for making lots of great saves, and playing well outfield.

Don’t forget training is every Wednesday, lots of fun activities and games to join in!
