U14 Girls v Northgate (September 2006)

Neatherd V Northgate

The first game of the new season for the U14 team was the visit of Northgate, the big local rivals. After sorting out the shirts the team went out and warmed up. We waited far too long for the Northgate team, but eventually we kicked off.

What a start……..within the first minute, Chelsie put a back pass into the Zoe (the keeper), who picked it up! Under rule 4.2.3.a in the FA Rule Book, this is an infringement and the referee correctly awarded an indirect free kick, just 6 yards from the goal. All of the Neatherd team got back on the line, and when the ball was passed from the free kick, Juliette ran out and blocked the ball, she then ran on to the ball, and dribbled from her own box, past 4 or 5 players into the opposition penalty area, finally to drill the ball in at the near post!! A great goal.

Soon after Hannah, Carrie-Ane and Laura linked up well to set up Charlotte, who shot just wide. Juliette put a great cross in, Charlotte did well to get a volley in, although it went just over. It was all Neatherd; Aimee played the ball to Charlotte who had a great run past 2 defenders and a string shot, that was well saved. Laura was using her pace down the right and getting in great crosses. Neatherd got a deserved second, Juliette had a great run and put in a cross with her left foot. From 2 yards out Carrie Ane scored, although she did nearly miss it! 2-0 Neatherd. For most of the first half Zoe was a little bored in goal, but whenever she was called into action, she did really well, the teams looks much better with a good keeper between the posts.

From a corner Charlotte made a great contact with the ball, and slotted home to give Neatherd a 3-0 lead. Despite looking confident at the back some sloppy defending saw Northgate get a goal back. On the whole Sian and Chelsie were in great form in central defence. The full backs of Emily and Colette were also in good form. Faye had a shot well saved, Juliette did the same. Laura won the ball, passed it square to Hannah who hit a great drive that went just over the cross bar. Aimee intercepted a goal kick, played in Charlotte who finished well with a great shot low into the corner.

A great first game of the season, we played well and the result was never in doubt! Three things…..1) Bring back those shirts if you haven’t already. 2) Bring in the reply slips for the 5-a-side tournamment, if you are selected. 3) See you at training….EVERY WEDNESDAY. Well done girls.

Player of the Match – Between Juliette and Charlotte, but the award today goes to Juliette, for scoring the first, and setting up two more. A great all round display.
