Playing in the U13 League (which is a league for Year 8 girls) the team from Neatherd was made up only of Year 7 girls, getting prepared for a push to win the league next year! Mr. Sinclair was looking forward to his first game with the Year 7’s, but wasn’t expecting great things after 2 losses in previous games that he had missed. How very wrong he was proved! Paige won the toss, and decided that Neatherd should have kick-off.

Now to the action…….the game started a little ‘scrappy’ with little ‘passing and moving’ from either side. At the back Anya, Paige, Leah and Sophie were making excellent tackles and clearances. Unfortunately Neatherd went behind early on; a cross rebounded to their striker who volleyed the ball in through Rachel in goal. Moments later Anya handled the ball in the middle of the pitch, the free kick resulted in another shot on goal from Reepham, but fortunately Rachel was in fine form making save after save to keep Neatherd in the game.

We were improving; Ashleigh had some good dribbles in midfield, and was starting to pass the ball to our wingers. A great cross from Rianna gave Anya a shot on goal; her great effort hit the post and went wide….but we were getting closer! Danni won the ball in midfield and passed to Rianna who ran on into the box and scored to draw Neatherd level. Their best player then scored to put us behind again.

Hannah had come on upfront and was linking well with her fellow striker Rianna and the wingers Claudia, Lucy and Jaye.  Half time came and went.  The second half saw some more amazing defending, particularly from Sarah and Leah, who did really well to keep their best player quiet. Considering she was older, bigger and stronger, Sarah and Leah were amazing! At times many defender joined in to keep her out of the game….good work!

Neatherd started the second half really well, Lisa was passing the ball well (especially considering she had been hit numerous times with the ball!), Holly was winning the ball in Midfield as was Lucy. Ashleigh had a strong shot blocked, the ball fell to Rianna who shot well into the far corner. It got better for Neatherd, Rianna won the ball on the half-way-line, beat a defender then dribbled all the way to goal outrunning the defenders to score! Goal of the Match! Reepham then scored, and despite Neatherd pressure and shots from Jaye, Rianna and Ashleigh the game ended in a draw.

Neatherd played fantasically well, congratulations to Paige for captaining the team for the first team, and encouraging when she was on and off the field. Well done Rachel in goal for keeping Neatherd in the game. In fact superb effort everyone, with this quality and effort next season, we will win many more games. See you all at training.
